I am using document modules to link to various documents on my company Intranet DNN application. I have links to Word, Excel, and Visio files. I can open WOrd documents and Excel spreadsheets without any problems. However, when I try to open a Visio diagram, I get the Windows login dialog, prompting me for a username/password.

If I click the "Cancel" button a few times, I can eventually load the Visio diagram. Does anyone know why this happens and/or how to prevent this from happening?

Hello MikeW,
Is there any kind of special permissions on the folder where the visio diagrams are stored on the server? Also, are the diagrams stored on a separate drive from the Word/Excel documents that has different permissions? This can cause problem if the application is trying access these files.
Thanks,

Hi Robert,

Visio diagrams are in same folder as Word and Excel files. They were all uploaded to the DNN server using file manager. I used a .ZIP file that contained the folders and files. Thus, the folder was created automatically when the files were uploaded, so there should be no special permissions. The real quirky thing is that the files eventually will load if you click Cancel button enough times.

Thanks

Hello MikeW,

Does this happen in both IE and Firefox? You should only get prompted on something that you do not have permission to access. Are these files in any kind of sub folder to the other documents? Also, are you returning a application/ms-visio content type or are you returning the physical file?

Thanks,
Robert Chumley

Also, maybe check the file permissions on the image that you are displaying for the download link to a Visio file?

ListX....makes you look brilliant, even though you're not.

Hello MikeW,
If you have trouble after checking all these features, then I am tempted to believe that this is not a DNN problem. I have never really had as issue with requiring that I log in to access a restricted file that did not have a permission setting that was out of whack somewhere.
Thanks,
Robert Chumley
