I need to find a good hosting company that doesn't suck. I think I have used at least 5 or 6 the major DNN hosting companies and I can't seem to find someone that is consistent. Lately, my sites have been extremely slow and it is taking days to get any response when I submit a support ticket.

All that being said, I don't mind paying a little more if I can get with a hosting company that doesn't load 500 sites on one server.

I've been using WebHost4Life for years now for my personal sites and it would take a lot to get me to leave. Their tech support has always been top notch and same day service even when you mark something low priority. High priority is faster. I prefer the control panel over Godaddy and 3essentials hosting control panels. WH4L gives you some control over IIS settings, you can set up your own asp.net app directories, add domain names to directories, set custom error pages, etc. They auto install DNN if you want, but I did my own installs via ftp, just a preference. I don't see them as any slower or faster than any other host on general shared hosting. They do offer a new Semi-dedicated server hosting that keeps a cap on how many share space on the same server so that might be of interest to you. Costs less than dedicated which costs a fortune but costs more than general shared. I've had no issues with DNN related to the web host at all, and when I messed up and upgraded without saving the keys, they were able to reset/retrieve the logins for me at no charge. In comparison to other web hosts, you do get more bang for your buck, there are less or no limitations on bandwidth etc, ample sql databases included, etc. Check them out yourself www.webhost4life.com. A friend recommends 3essentials, but they use Plesk and I hate it, and 3essentials gives less control than webhost4life, less in terms of being able to do things yourself instead of HAVING to ask tech support to do it for you and hope they get it right. I have heard some complain about webhost4life and honestly it surprised me that anyone would not be happy with their services. I have also heard a lot of other people say they are very happy there, too. It depends on what you value most, but imo webhost4life has everything you could want or need.

Just my 2 cents,
Rick

It dawns on me now, too, that many say the database log can get outrageously large and I've found that to be true, webhost4life has a shrink utility that takes care of that without having to enter a bunch of sql commands to do it. There is also a module on Snowcovered called Database Tune Up or something like that, I've used it and it works great for shrinking and optimizing the database without having to go through the web host control panel and login to the database. But if the problem is truly "overcrowding" on your server, then that won't help.

We have had quite good success with two Host Providers from both performance and customer service.

www.PointClick.net (out of North Carolina)
www.CrystalTech.com (out of Arizona)

Both are approx. the same price. PointClick is a smaller shop with a large data center backing and awesome anytime customer support and personalized service. Crystal is a larger company that has a DNN focus, excellent control panel and online support group. We have been quite pleased with each.

We have also heard positive feedback on www.PowerDNN.com but have not directly used them yet for any clients.

I have used powerdnn.com for almost 2 years now and have had excellent service. I have always been on shared server with them (getting ready to go to dedicated server in next couple of days) and the speed has always been great. The support is great - I usually get response in 15 minutes. And the features:

Unlimited bandwidth
dedicated application pools
full trust
Plesk - do your own backups
unlimited FTP accounts
sql access
very fast servers

Only downside might be disk space limit - 1gb with lowest cost plan. The price is a bit higher - $20 per month for lowest cost plan.

Thanks for the feedback. I will look into all those companies. I just don't get fast enough support from my current host and the problems are getting to be more frequent.

I have my own dedicated server so I don't use a hosting company, but I've done the research and if I were going to pick one, I would be going with PowerDNN. VERY DNN centric with support experience for DNN also. If you can spare the bucks, I've had incredible results with my own dedicated server from theplanet.com

ListX....makes you look brilliant, even though you're not.
