| We have been tossing around the idea of rebranding ListX into a new name for the platform, to go along with our upcoming 2.0 release. Some of you may wonder why, but it comes down to one thing. ListX makes you think of Lists, and as you all know, ListX is far from a simple List control. We still have names tacked all over the place here trying to decide what is best, but - I will clue you all in on the next few posts on what is coming. From there - the Sky is the limit, so suggest away! |

Listx bennies.... 1. Rapid development 2. 100% Scripting environment 3. Quick and Direct data access 4. One tool for customizing your DNN
The name should help to enforce these qualities. I would also attenpt to incorporate some form of the word "Script" in the name. I believe it denotes the perception of being lightweight, easy to use, and effective, and will attract the attention of novices to proffesionals.
"Scriptor for DNN" (misspelling is intentional) "DNN Scriptor" "Script-it! for DNN" "All-Script for DNN" "mojoscript" (my personal fav)

Good feedback on the suggested names. The following represents the roadmap for the ListX product. Release Highlights: 1.7x -Upgraded admin interface -Import csv/xls (standard formatting) -Enhanced security settings 2.0 -LP - ListX module build ability -Toolbar retirement -enhanced admin interface -user designated UI mode 2.x -Major surprise - but it will please all Version 1.7x> will be offered free to existing ListX customers. 2.x will have a discounted upgrade pricing model. Starting with version 1.7x source code will no longer be offered via SnowCovered but on a per customer basis. Best Regards Chris Chodnicki Bi4ce |

Chris, That is disappointing to find out you will be charging current customers for upgrades. I understand that a company needs to survive, but I am old school I feel that once you pay for it upgrades should be provided. Unless it is a major upgrade or rewrite. Considering I have struggled like many others here, with the docs and examples. Then finding that the Module Build Utility will be in the 2.0 release is disheartening. I was really counting on that along with the updated documentation to further my project. You would be better off charging more for the product upfront because it is worth a lot more than what you are charging. Personal note you are basically giving it away right now. I would charge the $99.50 for the product and forget about selling the source, or selling the source for older versions. However to justify the price increase you would definitely have to provide much more examples and docs covering the product. I was sold on it when I first saw ListX and what caused the purchase was the tag line “Caution: Using the Toolbar and ListX together in the same application will cause serious speed increases in your development. Keep all hands and feet inside your vehicle at all times! Side effects include time savings, more free time, faster project development and a larger bank account. Results may vary. Consult your doctor if your hands catch fire.” Now granted results will vary but like others it has been a learning curve because the product is somewhat advertised as a simple solution to building your own modules without have a ton of programming experience. Anyway I am just venting my feelings concerning the decision. I feel this is by far one of the best DNN modules out there and it is always getting better. Doug |

Doug, I can appreciate your comments. I am the owner of a startup and have been burning cash for the better part of a year and a half. It turned out my vision was bigger than I was capable of delivering... until listx came along. My vb developer is hardly kept busy in vb anymore. I'm a script guy that has found religion in listx. I come from a fortune 500 environment where I managed the creation and implementation of business processes, and what I'm doing today would have taking many developers hundreds of hours of writing code. Granted, DNN wasn't around then. Aside from some legacy vb and other minor vb control code my app is entirely listx on DNN. There are not many modules out there that I can't emulate with listx. Another reason I embraced listx was that I knew that BI4CE would be continually providing additional functionality in upgrades. This is dirt cheap development for a company like mine. In fact my business module could not support a conglomeration of modules throughout 1000s of portals. With listx, I change one line of code and all listx instantiations referencing that setting are affected. That’s the kind of leverage you can compete with. Just my two cents, Mike Crain |

DON'T name your product around a technology or function. That BINDS you and stereotypes you in the minds of prospects to that name. Look at ListX. Look at SalesForce. Their getting screwed now because they are trying to be everything SaaS to everyone, be it SFA, ERP, HR, whatever, but they are stuck with SalesForce. NetSuite did a much better "marketing" job in allowing them to be visualized as all things to all people in SaaS.
Think about Google. What if they named themselves GooSearch. It would be harder to think of them as a Web 2.0 application enablement company going forward, as part of their strategy suggests, if that was their name.
Go generic. NickiX, BIX(bicks), I dunno, but you get my point. I will offset my next BI4CE invoice against this valuable marketing consultation advice.

Interesting to see that ListX now sells for $99.00 on Snowcovered....
It would be interesting to know how this will effect the upgrade cycle for version 2.0 will you be following the same road map stated above?

It also appears that you can’t get the Upgrade at snowcovered if you have purchased an earlier version... Has it just not been uploaded yet for download?
I have looked under the patches area and nothing... The latest version iin my listing is NukeDK-Package.1.6.6.3.zip
Or are we faced with purchasing it again?

Current licensed users of ListX will get the new version for free. This version of Listx and forward be sold as a PA only. Source may be purchased on an individual basis by contacting Bi4ce directly.
If the download is not available on SnowCovered it may be an option setting we missed when released yesterday. We still get a bit 'lost' in terms of how SnowCovered manages new releases, patches and other undocumented commernce rules. we'll make sure it is right ASAP.

Hey Guys!!!!
I used to work for a company that made and sold a framework for developers to build desktop apps. That product cost around 350 US! ListX is a steal! As for a name, how about DNNXPress? Because with listx you're doing express DNN development. |

XDeveloper
Simple, gives transition from existing name, describes product at a basic level, alludes at target audience, indicates fleXiblity and power, doesn't pinhole into existing capabilities, and allows for future growth in functionality.

Beside the name, would the product support imports (so i will not have to rewrite existing apps)? and do you have ANY document on 2.0 (even an in-the-work, not-so-final guide) because i am really considering options for my current clients and want to plan my solutions. Any ETA at this point? Would you like some testers? <img src='http://dnn.bi4ce.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'> |
