Hi again Folks,

I am putting some style sheets together that work fine by themselves outside of DNN (in DW), but when put in they don't behave the same. I was under the impression that with this editor, I could somehow find out which style sheets were affecting certain pieces (i.e. a particular container) while looking at it. Is that true? How would you nail down the styles affecting a certain element you are working on?

TIA for the info,

Robb

The CSS/Editor is a module which provides the ability for you to add, edit and delete your Style sheets, classes and attributes within the confines of your DNN Portal. The module provides all the tools necessary for working with your files, including the built in CSS Guide and Color Scheme generator. It doesn't provide a definition tool to identify the class which is applied to a specific container, but I can provide  bit of assistance into finding the problem you are experiencing.

When working with Styles in DNN, there is a default CSS class (in the _default portal directory). This will provide the means for the standard classes to use within your site. You can modify these settings on a portal by portal basis by changing the matching file in the specific Portal directory of the target portal. Also, each portal can have one or more skins applied to it. The skins generally provide their own CSS files which override the styles defined as the default and portal level. Check for a skin.css file in the directory housing the skin you are using.

Finally, each container can also define its own classes to be used withing the style sheet. You can see if your container overrides styles by checking to see if there are any style sheets in the directory of the container itself.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to point you in the right direction.

Happy Nuking!

Hello..

well.. I can't for the life of me figure out WHAT css file affects what, usually... I am trying to control the sie of the font in the core announcments module. I am using a DNN designer skin but a std dnn container and I can't see how it would affect the size of the font. What, directly controls the font in the body of announcements?

Seriously, I don't know if this is the place to ask this, but I will try to help you. You really have to read the skinning documentation to know what styles are used with what section of the module, skin, region, etc. What I've done in the past is *first read the documentation!*, then look at the source code and see the style name closest to the text I am trying to 'style'. Even when you say the 'size of the font in the core announcements module', this infers needing to read the docs--there is no replacement or work-around for this...trust me, I've *tried* it. ;-) Each module has a title (at minimum) and text. Are you trying to change the title font? or the text font? We can't help unless you are clear. If it's the text font, what skin are you using? Each skin declares their own containers and such. So w/o knowing *which* container you are using, and specifically *which* skin you are using, there's no way w/o looking at your source HTML file, to know, what style class is directing the Announcements font. I can tell ya this--in my DNN 4.0.3 install (that's more information that would help people--what version of DNN are you using?), the style name that changes my module text is 'Normal'. So you have to change 'Normal' to something else...but I should warn you--changing the Normal style will change the style of ALL fonts assigned to the 'Normal' style. Hope this intro helps--but it's really no replacement for reading the skinning docs. I know how frustrating it can be, especially since I've *READ* all the docs, many times, and there are STILL things that are nebulous...just a matter of tearing your hair out bit by bit. Good luck.
